Stop blaming Antrim Hospital

I REFER to Patrice Dougan's article about Antrim Area Hospital (News, January 20).

I have recently been a patient in Antrim hospital and I wish to pay tribute to the very kind, very hard-working staff and thank them for their care and attention.

The blame for the overcrowding in this 'specialist' hospital lies with the person who closed the other hospitals.

Why did he not wait until the new A-amp;E unit was completed?

This hospital is not being permitted to carry out its proper function. It is half-full of very elderly people who should be in geriatric or psychiatric hospitals.

The person who has caused this dilemma should be made to rectify it - or resign.

HILARY D GAULT OBE
