Strangford needs politicians to act

Published 26/10/2015

Over the past few days we have had more devastating news on the local economy within the Strangford and Ards peninsula area, with the loss of 20 jobs due to the closure of the Portaferry Hotel.

This comes on top of the closure of the Exploris aquarium, which also saw job losses, and the loss of business to the area as a result.

The closure of Exploris has taken around £3m out of the local economy and we are seeing the effects of this with the closure of the Portaferry Hotel.

I think it is time for our political representatives to start looking to boost the private sector to generate jobs and business activity within our area.

The people of Strangford and the Ards peninsula area deserve better.
