Can I please add my plea to that of Frustrated Traveller (Write Back, October 9)?

I have been living in Milan for nearly 30 years and thought I had died and gone to heaven when started up the first direct flight from Belfast.

My family and I have used it any number of times and numerous friends travelled to Northern Ireland this summer on the service.

After years of travelling from Dublin or transferring at practically every UK airport, the direct flight was so convenient.

However, the company has suspended the service and there is no word about whether it will start up again in the spring or whether the route will be taken over by another carrier.

With the prospect of tourism booming in the province, it would be foolish not to exploit the large number of Italians who intend visiting Northern Ireland.

If the direct flights only take them as far as Dublin, many do not venture much further afield.
