Sugden could hold key to Assembly's future
Alex Kane (Comment, December 29) suggests that, in the event of the collapse of the Assembly and a new election over RHI, little would change in seats for the DUP and Sinn Fein.
He is probably right, but he makes no mention of Justice Minister Claire Sugden, who provided the get out of jail free card to DUP/Sinn Fein so they could avoid political bias.
As an relatively inexperienced and independent MLA, with no party structure to support her, we can only speculate what made Ms Sugden feel she was equipped for the role.
She has been all but invisible since the elections and inconsequential in terms of her Executive impact.
But on RHI, she now has choices to make. Will she support Sinn Fein's motion for Arlene Foster to step aside, back the First Minister or abstain?
If there is an election, the issue of the Justice portfolio will return. The question is, will Ms Sugden once again bail out DUP/Sinn Fein?
