Swedish model a failed experiment

Published 22/10/2012

In reply to those who readily quote the success of the "Swedish Model" in combating prostitution and enthusiastically promote its introduction here.

I would like to draw their attention to the debate in Sweden seriously challenging the 'Skarhed' report's validity and especially the claims of the reduction in numbers of men paying for sex.

There are numerous reports from universities in Sweden, USA, and the UK that paint a somewhat different picture.

Having invested a lot of time and effort the Swedish Government had a vested interest presenting their experiment in a favourable light. It seems suspicious that the Swedish government didn't produce the full report in a multi-lingual format.

Many from within Sweden and those that have obtained a full translation have dubbed the 'Swedish Model' a "failed experiment in social engineering".
