The Church must move with the times
Alf McCreary thinks 'the Church will have to decide whether it stands firm on current Christian teaching forbidding gay unions, or whether it goes with the flow of public demand and grants formal recognition for gay marriage' (Review, March 10).
Regardless of biblical teaching, Christianity has got to change with the times, or it will increasingly become more and more irrelevant.
It has no choice.
Not all that long ago, the 'Christian' Church had to decide whether it stood firm on the Bible's pro-slavery teaching, or whether to go with the flow of our common humanity and grant formal recognition to an end of slavery.
As always, it took a long time to change, or to see sense.
