The Koran is more than a burning issue

Published 16/09/2010

Whatever may be the rights or wrongs of the threat by Pastor Terry Jones to burn copies of the Koran, he has effectively exposed the double standards, hypocrisy, and indeed irresponsibility of some of the comments made about the whole issue.

The burning of some copies of the Koran is surely not as bad or reprehensible as deliberately crashing airliners into the Twin Towers or placing bombs on trains and buses.

It is revealing to compare the reaction from the Muslim world to these atrocities and the threat to burn some copies of the Koran.

To warn that burning the Koran will put lives in danger by a reaction from Muslims risks giving justification for such reaction.

Which is the greater evil - burning a book or taking a life?
