Time for a vow of silence on Church, Mary

Published 25/06/2014

AS a practising Catholic, I write to express my disgust at the latest vicious and crass attack on the Church by the former Irish President Mary McAleese.

By calling the Pope and the Synod of Bishops who will be discussing family issues in the autumn "bonkers", Mrs McAleese is insulting all Catholics.

If she disagrees so much with Church doctrine, rather than continuing to be an a la carte Catholic, why doesn't she follow her conscience and join another denomination more to her liking? I know of many Catholics who are totally sickened by her constant desire for publicity.

I am sure that many people would be happy to pay for Mary to stay at an enclosed convent, where she could take a vow of silence for hopefully at least a decade.

That way we would be spared her tiresome attention-seeking.
