If you served in the New Zealand armed forces, you will be eligible for the New Zealand Defence Medal from 2010, awarded by the Queen of New Zealand.
If you served in the Canadian armed forces, you are entitled to the Sacrifice Medal from the Queen of Canada.
If you served in the Australian armed forces, since 2006, you have been able to wear the Australian Defence Medal, from the Queen of Australia.
But if you served in the UK armed forces, tough. No National Defence Medal for you, but you can get an 80p Veterans Badge.
Is it possible to follow the example of the Commonwealth and institute a UK National Defence Medal for all UK armed forces' personnel who served since 1945?
