Tourism suffers from ineptitude of politicians

The prospect of the world's second-largest cycle race (after the Tour de France), the Giro d'Italia, starting in Northern Ireland in 2014 is another great coup for the country.

With the G8 in Fermanagh this year and Londonderry UK City of Culture, things couldn't be better. Or could they?

Politicians and the Tourist Board alike have both failed to deal with local issues; Stormont has yet to apply pressure on the streets to eliminate protests, whether it's flags, marches, or paramilitaries.

Tourism has yet to waken up to the fact that there is only one man-made viable tourist structure in Northern Ireland for people to visit – if they can get here.

Paris is the only continental European capital from where you can fly direct to Belfast, and there are only four flights per week from North America.

Tourism and business suffer due to failed policies by inept politicians who see the country through green or orange glasses.
