Travel warning over polio jabs
LAST month saw new recommendations outlined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) following the latest outbreak of the wild polio virus in Asia. Countries affected include Pakistan – which has more than 270,000 visitors from Britain each year.
Travellers visiting infected countries are urged to have a polio vaccine booster dose if they have not already received one in the last 10 years. Aside from this, those visiting infected areas must ensure they have an up-to-date vaccination certificate when departing, a measure enforced as a direct result of WHO's guidelines.
