Troops deserve state support

Published 14/03/2011

The Government's confirmation that compensation for armed forces personnel injured during service will be significantly increased following Admiral Lord Boyce's report is a welcome step.

The report confirms the need to increase all guaranteed income payments to reflect the long-term effect of injuries and the employment potential, or difficulties, of our wounded personnel.

While these increases are deserved, our nation needs to reflect on the worth of our service personnel and value them more.

The public will have an opportunity to show their admiration when the RIR, and hopefully the Irish Guards, have their homecoming parades.
