UK's standing on ceremonies

Published 30/12/2011

So the Government is to allocate another £41m to the budget for the Olympic Games' opening ceremony.

Hospitals, schools, police stations and libraries are being closed all over the UK because of a lack of funding, but they can fund the Olympic Games with no problem.

If they are going to fund something connected with sport, then why not put the money into the grassroots?

After all, the London Olympics is supposed to be about legacy. That was why the city won the bid in 2005.

As a sports fan, I want to see the athletes compete against each other. I could not care less about the opening and closing ceremonies and may not even watch them. What is the point in these ceremonies anyway?
