Unionists failing to see calamity ahead of them
NORTHERN Ireland is facing its greatest existential crisis since its formation, yet our unionist politicians have failed to notice - never mind form a policy or give leadership on the issue.
It's a double-whammy, where with the SNP headed for a landslide in Scotland, a new referendum is called in the next parliament. But, this time, the Yes vote carries the day and Scotland leaves the Union.
Secondly, the Tories retain power, hold the referendum on membership of the EU and Britain leaves the EU.
Either of these events happening is disastrous for Northern Ireland - both occurring is a calamity, especially for unionists here. It's nothing short of a fast-track towards a united Ireland.
Yet, what do the unionist politicians do? They form a sectarian head-count, alienating half the population - the very people whose support they need.
There are none so blind as those who won't see.
