I have watched Mr Martin McGuinness on television more or less stating that it is now over to the Irish, British and American governments to take the initiative and endorse the Haass proposals. I now ask Mr McGuinness – will that achieve Ireland's unification? I very much doubt that it will, but for a moment, let us assume that it would.
I suggest to Mr McGuinness et al that the path to Ireland's unification is through social and political bonding of the people, where the results produce a healthy and progressive economy, free from the division of religion.
For as it stands at this moment, Ireland is governed by Europe.
As time marches on, when the European Union reaches its full achievement of a united Europe, where every country will be governed from Brussels, I respectfully suggest to Mr McGuinness he may then start making plans to remove Parnell's statue from O'Connell Street in Dublin.
