Village flags a tourism turn-off

I know that many of our towns and villages are decorated with flags and emblems, particularly at this time of year.

On Sunday, my wife and I drove along the north Antrim coast and we were outraged and appalled when we came to Carnlough to find that every lamp standard was carrying an Irish tricolour.

As an average Northern Ireland citizen, I found this offensive and intimidatory and clearly designed to make Protestant and unionist visitors feel unwelcome.

Needless to say, we didn't stop, or give any business to the village. After all, presumably our currency, bearing the Queen's features, would not have been acceptable.
