A GENERAL election is soon due when the people of the UK will be able to choose which party will form the government and thus who will be Prime Minister.
People in Northern Ireland should, as equal citizens with their English, Scottish and Welsh counterparts, have their democratic say, too.
That is why the UUP pact with the Conservatives is such a positive development in our local political scene - a chance for everyone in every seat in Northern Ireland to vote for or against Mr Cameron to be PM, as they wish.
For the first time in decades our votes will count in the battle for Prime Minister. Yet there are those who seek to steal our democratic right from us.
Why? Because they cannot see beyond the sectarian hatreds and headcounts of that darkened the past and cannot acknowledge that the constitutional position of Northern Ireland was safeguarded and settled by the Good Friday Agreement (thanks to the UUP).
Our country is in dire economic straits and at this election we make the vital choice of who will lead us out of this mess.
