The Ulster Unionist Party, via Fed Cobain, has recently said it will never support any form of water charging.
The UUP's Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey, has called for a ring-fencing of his departmental budget (which accounts for some 50% of all available expenditure).
The UUP has also voiced concern about 3% efficiency savings in Government. How will it pay for such a policy?
The UUP is trying to have its cake and eat it: making spending promises it can't keep and knows are unrealisable in a cynical attempt to attack those who have to make tough decisions and balance budgets.
One wonders what its Tory paymasters, who are committed to a mimumum 10% cut in the Northern Ireland block grant, make of such a duplicitous approach.
