Water workers being unrealistic about pensions

ONCE again we have a public sector union behaving as if they live on a different planet to the rest of us.

The current financial restraints and pension rule changes should not, apparently, apply to their members.

Having read your article (News, January 20) on NI Water's current and proposed pension contributions, I am sure many people like myself, who pay for the said pensions as tax/ratepayers, would dearly love to have similar arrangements.

For those in the private sector lucky enough to have a pension scheme, a company contribution of 5% matching the employee's similar contribution is the norm - a quarter of what is on offer to Nipsa.

Many others with no company pension scheme will retire with nothing but the basic State pension.

When are the public sector unions going to realise that the gravy train has left the station?
