We can't write our own rules

Published 05/10/2012

Irrespective of the pros and cons of the argument over the release of interviews that Anthony McIntyre undertook with former loyalist and republican terrorists (News, October 3), democracy would be turned upside down if this man was able to underwrite his own personal guarantees of confidentiality.

The worldwide legal system would become a farce, as every Tom, Dick and Harry would be making their own laws contradictory to the laws of the state.
