We should all be free to challenge religious beliefs
I write in support of Porteous Woods' statement (News, July 11) that "criticisms of ideas and ideologies must be considered as protected speech".
Reasonable though this defining principle of democracy is, we must appreciate that there are those who do not applaud it.
However, if we are to live amicably, many believers must accept that while they are free to proclaim their religious beliefs in the absence of proof, others, by the same token, must be free to evaluate, debate and even criticise what they claim.
