We should mark priests' bravery

I WRITE to support your correspondent D O'Brien's call for a memorial in honour of Fr Alec Reid and his tireless pursuit of peace (Write Back, November 29).

Here in Killarney, we had to wait a full 50 years after his death before providing a public memorial to Fr Hugh O'Flaherty's equally tireless work of reconciliation.

Perhaps the Irish postal authorities would consider the issue of special stamps in honour of both internationally recognised priests.

And any stamp could be a joint An Post-Royal Mail initiative.
