Well done Nesbitt on move into Opposition

Published 17/05/2016

Let me congratulate Mike Nesbitt on the announcement that the UUP will go into Opposition at Stormont. A brave decision and one that has gained my support.

Martin McGuinness has said that Mike Nesbitt is showing a lack of leadership. He is talking through his hat (or perhaps that should be black beret).

Does he not realise that, in both Westminster and the Dail, the present Prime Minister and Taoiseach were previously leaders of the opposition parties?

Almost half of the electorate felt unable to vote for any party in the recent election here. Those non-voters and vote-spoilers, like myself, now have something tangible to consider next time around and I believe that the move to Opposition will increase UUP support.

So, when are the SDLP and Alliance going to do the right thing and join the UUP in Opposition?

Power-sharing is well-established in Stormont and we now need to move the peace process on to a higher, more democratic, stage. Well done, Mike Nesbitt.
