What were the 'bad old days'?

Published 21/02/2012

Unionist politicians often say do we want to go back to the 'bad old days'. Do they mean 40, 100, 400 or 800 years ago?

Or is their gripe that their decades of mis-rule were taken from them?

To others, the 'bad old days' would be when this country was invaded by foreign bullies, or when their land was stolen and given to strangers.
