Why equality of citizenship is an illusion

I would like to thank the Rev Bro Stanley Gamble for his speech at this year's Rossnowlagh parade in Co Donegal where he highlighted the issue of equal citizenship.

Many of the southern minority have raised this with politicians here ever since the Irish and British Governments allowed citizens of the UK in Northern Ireland access to Irish citizenship.

Giving nationalists in Northern Ireland access to Irish citizenship without having to go through all the usual channels gives their identity legitimacy in the eyes of the world. There is nothing wrong with that.

One would have thought the logical outcome would have extended equal citizenship rights throughout Ireland, giving the southern minority access to British citizenship and legitimising our cultural identity. It seems 'equality' is one-sided. Are we not relevant?
