Why McCanns deserve closure

Letters to the editor should be sent to: 124-144 Royal Avenue, Belfast BT1 1EB. E-mail: writeback@belfasttelegraph.co.uk

I am just writing to express my disapproval of the never ending media hype that is the McCanns and the tragic circumstances that they have found themselves in.

Fair enough, what they did was stupid. I certainly do not endorse what they did and they were naive to think their children were safe - nowhere is safe.

But this is not the time to judge the couple. They sound like loving, caring parents who will pay the price, whatever the outcome. I am sure they could never have imagined this. Let's just hope they get their little girl back.

Are there many of us who can hold up our hand and say that we have never done anything misguided or ill-judged? Would we be so brave in front of the world to open up as they have?

They have spoken of their feelings and admitted their shortcomings.

Trouble can find its way to anyone's door, deliberate or not.

I take my hat off to the way they have conducted themselves, in spite of the intrusion blighting their daily lives, constantly overshadowing what is really important - finding Madeleine.

My prayers and thoughts are always with them and I hope one day they will find the peace and closure they so crave and deserve.

God bless.
