Writer ignores benefit of school uniform rules
JANE Graham (Life, November 7) has completely missed the point regarding school uniform.
Firstly, each pupil wearing exactly the same uniform means that we will not have the situation where pupils from less well-off families, wearing clothes from the local supermarket, will feel inferior to those sitting in the same classroom wearing designer clothes costing large amounts of money.
Secondly, there is the matter of health. With shoes it is very important that growing feet are shod with shoes that will not cause permanent deformities to develop.
Those of us who have brought up daughters know how difficult it is to get them to wear shoes that will not cause damage.
Setting up a competition to see who can come to school with the most trendy shoes is a recipe for serious problems in the homes of sensible parents who make a stand, and a potential disaster for the feet of children with parents of a similar view to Jane Graham.
