Young people are searching for work

Published 17/08/2015

I am a 16-year-old schoolboy who has just completed my GCSEs. I read and hear much in popular media about Government incentives to encourage young people into the workforce. I also hear an equal number of comments about how lazy young people are and are not interested in working.

From my perspective - and that of many of my friends - this is simply not true. Since completing my GCSEs in June, I have applied for literally dozens of jobs. I apply for at least one, and usually significantly more, every day.

I am caught in the classic catch-22 situation of not having experience, but being unable to gain this until I am given a chance to prove myself.

I am an intelligent, capable, mature and articulate young person. What does it take to be given a chance?
