Remember Michael Mates? He was the Conservative MP who resigned as Northern Ireland Minister over his friendship with Asil Nadir, then a fugitive tycoon, now a recently convicted fraudster.
Mr Mates' downfall in 1993 came courtesy of some cufflinks he gave Nadir bearing the message 'Don't let the buggers get you down'.
He could be about to return to the fold, as, aged 78, he is the somewhat controversial Tory pick for the Police Commissioner election in Hampshire. The vote takes place on Thursday.
