Roache faces real-life soap opera

According to reports, May 01, 2013 actor Bill Roache, 80, who plays Ken Barlow in long-running soap opera Coronation Street, has been arrested over historic allegations of sex assault BLACKPOOL, ENGLAND - JULY 25: Coronation Street actor Bill Roache comes face to face with a wax work model of his street character Ken Barlow on July 25, 2011 in Blackpool, England. Accused: Bill Roache

I hope Corrie's Bill Roache isn't guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl in 1967. If his spiritual beliefs are genuine, I imagine he would confess if he was guilty and ask her forgiveness.

He has admitted to promiscuity in his youth and bedding more than 1,000 women. And as Max Clifford – who stands accused himself – pointed out, nobody was asking for birth certificates at the time.

I'm going to miss Ken Barlow and his lovely hair in Coronation Street while the prosecutors and defence prepare for the trial. He and former jailbird Deirdre make a good double act on screen.

But I doubt if the actor ends up in the clink there will be any 'Free Ken Barlow' petitions brought to Downing Street.
