Viewpoint: Dream on for Norn Iron

It ain't over 'til it's over? Never was a truer phrase coined about anyone or anything than about this Northern Ireland team.

Like a petulant lover, they play with our emotions. They tease us with success and dazzle us with brilliance. They bring us hope and joy.

Then they plumb the depths of mediocrity, losing to sides they should have left in their wake.

We are left to wallow in the depths of our despair as they, with a childlike smirk, sneak off into the shadows.

Then, when we dare not think there can ever be a ray of hope again, they leave us soaring with two stunning goals against Denmark on Saturday night.

This team don't just give the fans a rollercoaster ride - they invented a whole fairground attraction thing.

But now we're back down to earth with a bump. Mighty Spain on Wednesday - and it's not in front of the home crowd at Windsor, but in Gran Canaria.

Northern Ireland must win that one, and Sweden must lose against Latvia.

Both are tough results, but the way this crazy qualifying campaign has gone so far ? it just might happen. Bring it on.
