Editor's Viewpoint: Respect the dead

Inevitably there is a rush to cash in on the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic. From beer to crisps, from baseball caps to jewellery, the shelves are filling up with products branded with the ill-fated liner's name. In these difficult times for retailers no-one can blame them for their entrepreneurial zeal.
But some items - like T-shirts bearing a Titanic swimming club logo or ice-cube holders emblazoned with the ship's name - are tacky and disrespectful to what was a terrible maritime tragedy. They deserve to be rejected.
Whether the centenary will bring the riches that so many hope for - not least tourist chiefs here - only time will tell.
