Trace your Family Tree

Free booklets and family tree poster to show you how to trace your roots.

Tuesday, 21 February 2012

Everyone would like to go back in time and meet their ancestors or at least have a peek into their world.

You may have even watched the TV show chasing down celebrities' infamous predecessors.

If you are intrigued to find out who came before you and what their life was like we can show you how to trace your roots and start making your own family tree come to life, even with the bare minimum of information to go on.

In our 4 part series we are giving away 4 booklets every day from Monday 5th March to Thursday 8th March with the Belfast Telegraph showing how to research your history and what life was like 100 years ago. We also follow local people as they discover their past and how it impacted on how their life has turned out.

Then on Friday 9th March with the Belfast Telegraph we are giving away a free poster which will allow you to fill in your own family tree. Plus on Saturday 10th March we have an exclusive reader offer in paper for the genealogical website genesreunited.co.uk

Why my kids feel Olympics are not the real thing now

I did quite well in my school exams, but the only thing for which I can confidently say I stood out like a beacon among my fellow pupils was my record-breaking 100-metres dash.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
