Belfast stay top

Kevin Saurette scored a pair of goals as Belfast Giants remained top of the Rapid Solicitors Elite League with a 7-4 victory over Cardiff Devils at the Odyssey Arena.

Daryl Lloyd opened the scoring for the Giants on the powerplay but Jesse Mychan's shorthanded marker ensured the teams went into the first intermission tied at 1-1.

2012 Stanley Cup champion Kevin Westgarth restored the advantage on his Giants debut and Colin Shields and Kevin Saurette put Belfast in a comfortable position at 4-1 before Doug Clarkson's powerplay strike cut the lead in half.

Ray Sawada And Adam Keefe gave Belfast further breathing space but Cardiff would not lay down and Clarkson and Tyson Marsh hit back, but it was Belfast's night and Saurette scored his second of the evening into the open net.

Two goals from Stefan Meyer ensured Braehead Clan kept pace with the Giants at the top of the table after they saw off Coventry Blaze 4-2, while doubles from Chris Lawrence and Bruce Graham led Nottingham Panthers to a 7-2 win over Sheffield Steelers.

A three-goal four-point night from John Mitchell helped Dundee Stars overcome Hull Stingrays 6-4 and in the evening's final game Fife Flyers recorded a 4-1 home win over Edinburgh Capitals.
