Belfast's lead atop Elite League cut to one point after defeat to Cardiff

Belfast Giants saw their three-point lead at the top of the Elite League cut to a single one after they suffered a 6-3 defeat to Cardiff Devils on Saturday.

The Giants, who claimed a victory over Edinburgh on Thursday night to extend their lead at the top, suffered two days later as Joey Martin and Tomas Kurka netted a brace each for the Devils as Andrew Hotham and Joey Haddad completed the scoring.

Mike Wilson and a brace from Mike Radja was not enough for the visitors at the Cardiff Arena as the hosts along with Nottingham sit hot on their heels a point further back after the Panthers defeated Coventry Blaze.

Paul Swindlehurst was on target in the second and third quarters, while Andy Bohmbach and David Clarke scored one apiece in Nottingham's comfortable 4-0 win over the basement boys.

In fourth, Sheffield Steelers edged a high-scoring 17-goal thriller against Braehead Clan 9-8 after a shoot-out at 8-8, while Dundee Stars claimed a narrow 3-2 overtime victory over Edinburgh Capitals and Manchester Storm saw off Fife Flyers 3-1.
