Belfast born world champion boxer Carl Frampton will fight Leo Santa Cruz in New York this summer.

The news broke on Twitter on Friday evening.

Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan tweeted the big news that agreement had been reached to hold the fight this summer, adding further details will be made public next week.

The boxer himself then tweeted he will be challenging Cruz for the WBA featherweight title in the Big Apple late summer.

The news followed speculation earlier this year when Frampton and Cruz exchanged blows on Twitter.

Earlier this month, Frampton was stripped of his WBA super-bantamweight title.

The title was taken away from the Tiger's Bay man after he did not fight Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux.
