Boxing: Mccullough makes a Marc

Marc McCullough will clash with Ruairi Dalton in an all-Ulster bantamweight final in the Irish under-21 championships on Friday night.

Shankill Road man McCullough produced a clinical display, using an array of combinations to chalk up a convincing 25-7 win over Graham Keating in the National Stadium at the weekend.

Then up stepped Dalton of St John's and he edged out Danny Coughlin after a tight and cagey bantam semi, winning 9-6.

Holy Trinity's Conor McGuinness was aiming to be the third Ulster boxer to make it through to the finals but was behind all the way against Gavin Keating who will go head-to-head with defending champion James Upton in an all-Dublin featherweight final next weekend.

Upton survived receiving a public warning for dropping his shoulder in the third to see off another Ulsterman, Oliver Plunkett's Mark Ginley, 16-8.

There was success for Stephen Donnelly of All Saints ABC in Ballymena when he moved through to Friday night's lightweight decider after defeating Sonny Upton in an entertaining duel.

The lead changed twice in an exciting second round before Donnelly controlled the third and went on to win 14-6.

Donnelly will meet John Murray in the final after the Gorey man defeated Tony Bates 24-12.

The middleweight title will be disputed between Brian Brosnan and Martin Lynch.

Brosnan built on a two point lead at the end of the second to defeat Padraig McCrory of St John's, Belfast.

Hard punching light heavyweight Ciaran McAuley of Holy Family, Belfast forced Robert Burke to take standing counts in the second and third on the way to booking a place in the final.

McAuley will face Michael F Ward as he defeated Danny Tourish.
