Carl Frampton will fight fierce rival Scott Quigg in February - according to the Bury boxer's trainer Joe Gallagher.

Both camps have been locked in talks about the showdown, and Gallagher feels it is closer than ever, with the date February 20 or February 27 and Manchester Arena the likely venue.

Belfast fighter Frampton is IBF super bantamweight champion, with Quigg the WBA's regular super bantamweight champion.

"There has been lots of talks over the last couple years but finally it looks like it will happen," Gallagher said.

"I'm hearing they are talking about February 20 or February 27 and it will be the biggest fight of the year," he commented.

Promoters Eddie Hearn and the legendary Barry McGuigan are understood to have moved closer to a deal.

The McGuigan camp feel Frampton should get the better end of the deal as they regard him as the main attraction and the genuine champion.
