Carl Frampton's Odyssey triumph boost from Santa Cruz
Carl Frampton says he is ready to set up a showdown with WBC World super-bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz, who retained his title at the weekend.
Ahead of his defence with Cristian Mijares on Saturday night, Santa Cruz said he was prepared to come to Belfast to face Frampton and the champion re-iterated that assertion after his unanimous points victory in Las Vegas.
Santa Cruz said: "I want Frampton next. Carl's been saying he wants to fight me and I've seen him in a couple of fights. He's a great fighter, he comes forward like me so I think it would make a really great fight for the fans."
Frampton, who meets Mexican Hugo Cazarez in a final eliminator for a shot at the WBC World title on April 4 at the Odyssey Arena, said: "Santa Cruz looked good beating Mijares and it's great that he has called me out again. He clearly wants the fight and now it's up to me to keep my end of the bargain by beating Cazarez at the Odyssey."
Holy Family's Michaela Walsh and City of Belfast's Fiona Nelson won the Irish elite women's bantamweight and super-heavyweight titles, respectively at Dublin's National Stadium on Saturday night.
