Frampton v Santa Cruz: Carl pledges to be a star in Las Vegas
Confident Carl Frampton arrived in Las Vegas late last night promising to make it a double over Leo Santa Cruz. The WBA featherweight champion, who has been in hard training over the festive period, will spend the next four weeks in Vegas ahead of his re-match with Santa Cruz at the MGM Grand Hotel on January 28.
Frampton and Santa Cruz served up the 2016 fight of the year and the Belfast man has been widely acclaimed as the fighter of the year, having won their pulsating clash in New York on the back of defeating Scott Quigg in a super-bantamweight unification clash.
On the plane to Vegas, Frampton tweeted: "Last time I went to the states to fight LSC I told you I'd be coming back as the champ. Same again this time."
Frampton and Santa Cruz have shown a great deal of respect throughout their rivalry and Frampton doesn't expect that to change as the countdown begins to what should be another compelling battle.
"He's a nice guy, respectful to me and anyone like that I'm going to be respectful back. The fight sells itself, there was no hype before the first fight and it was a great fight and this one is going to be the same - if not better," said Frampton, whose first defence of the belt will be screened live on Sky Sports.
