Leo Santa Cruz 'back in training' for Carl Frampton rematch
Leo Santa Cruz is back in training in the hope of an end of year rematch with boxing champion Carl Frampton in a bid to reclaim his WBA Super Featherweight title.
Belfast boxer Frampton made history to become a two-weight world champion when he beat Santa Cruz in a majority points decision in New York in July.
It was three-weight champion Santa Cruz's first ever defeat with the fight considered one of this year's best spectacles.
On Thursday, the Spanish language ESPN Deportes reports that the vanquished former champion is determined to have a rematch and is expecting it to be in December.
His father Jose Santa Cruz said nothing has been signed or agreed, but talks were advanced with Las Vegas or Los Angeles raised as possible venues.
He said: "Well it seems that the plans are going well and [Frampton] will provide a direct rematch as my son wanted.
"Let's hope so."
He said it was important the fight take place in the two venues as the New York bout had an adverse affect on his son.
"The important thing is always revenge, nothing more," he said.
Previously The Jackal said any rematch would take place closer to home with Belfast his preferred venue.
