Irish Olympian Adam Nolan suffered a disappointing split-decision defeat in the last 64 of the welterweight competition at the World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Despite being awarded all three rounds by the Brazilian judge, Bray boxer Nolan dropped the verdict after the other two judges edged in favour of Frenchman Souleymane Cissokho.

Meanwhile Scottish welterweight Lewis Benson also exited the competition, dropping a unanimous verdict to Carl Hield of the Bahamas.
