Paddy Gallagher and Conrad Cummings on track for British title battles: Barry McGuigan
Paddy Gallagher and Conrad Cummings are moving towards British title shots on the back of respective stoppage victories in Cardiff at the weekend, according to former World champion Barry McGuigan.
Gallagher landed the vacant Celtic welterweight title with a first round knockout of Welshman Tony Dixon, while Coalisland middleweight Cummings halted former Welsh champion Frankie Borg in the sixth round.
McGuigan, whose company Cyclone Promotions staged the bill headlined by World king Lee Haskins, said: "They're getting closer to major championship opportunities. The right hand that Paddy caught Dixon with was a cracker. Winning the Celtic title puts him in a great position on the British scene."
Gallagher, a 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, added: "When I caught him with the finishing shot I didn't feel like I really hit him. He said he was OK but he wasn't."
As for Cummings, McGuigan - who manages the Coalisland man - said: "Now he is working smarter and you could see that in the way he took his time more and got the stoppage.
"He understands how he needs to go about his work to be really effective so we're looking to push him on for a title chance."
