Braehead extend lead

Braehead Clan extended their lead at the top of the Elite League table after special teams goals from Derek Roehl and Leigh Salters gave them a 2-1 victory over Dundee Stars.

Paul Swindlehurst put Edinburgh ahead 7:10 into the opening period but Roehl's shorthanded marker early in the second levelled matters. Salters' powerplay strike 52 seconds into the final frame won it.

Great Britain international Craig Peacock and Ray S awada were among the scorers as Belfast Giants climbed above Sheffield into second place with a 6-3 victory over the Steelers at the Odyssey Arena.

Colin Shields cancelled out Tyler Mosienko's opener for the visitors before Colton Fretter struck late in the first to send the Steelers into the first break 2-1 up.

Belfast came out strong after the interval and goals from Peacock, Cody Brookwell Daryl Lloyd and Sawada saw them take a comfortable 5-3 lead, with Jason Hewitt replying for Sheffield. Mike Kompon wrapped up the scoring in the final stanza.

In the evening's final game, two goals and an assist from Chris Higgins paced Nottingham Panthers to a 6-1 win over Edinburgh Capitals.
