Colin Shields inspires with hat-trick as Great Britain ease past the Netherlands
Colin Shields scored a hat-trick to draw level with Tony Hand's Great Britain scoring record as the hosts crushed the Netherlands 14-0 at the SSE Arena in Belfast.
The Scot took his tally to 41 international goals, four shy of the record haul of 45 held by Gerry Davey.
The victory sets up a gold-medal game against Japan on Saturday with both teams boasting 100 per cent records in World Championship Division One Group B as they hunt promotion.
Shields, Jonathan Phillips and Sam Duggan were on target to send Britain into the first intermission with a 3-0 advantage.
Brendan Brooks, Craig Peacock, Robert Lachowicz, Shields and Duggan then added further goals as the home side took complete control, taking an 8-0 lead into the final period.
Liam Stewart and Robert Dowd contributed further goals before Belfast Giants winger Shields completed his hat-trick much to the delight of the home crowd to make it 11-0.
Matt Myers, Brooks and Dowd then added more gloss for Britain as they outshot the Dutch 56-11.
