Alan Green: Hart-less act by Portsmouth
Monday, 30 November 2009
I have nothing whatsoever against Avram Grant. I’ve never met him, but I hear he’s a lovely man and while he may not be amongst the highest level of coaches, like a Ferguson or a Wenger, he is clearly an able manager.
However, I have to say I’ll not be sorry if Portsmouth end up relegated.
Their dismissal of Paul Hart (right), a thoroughly decent football man, was typical of the shambles that club has become. Just as the team looked as if it might be turning the corner, they sacked the guy that had taken over the reins during the darkest hours.
The club statement spoke nonsense about how they should have more points.
That’s not true with any cold analysis of the players they have. Having got rid of so many to try to balance their chaotic financial books, the Portsmouth squad is, arguably, the weakest in the Premier League. So, Hart was expected to work a miracle, was he?
I’m glad he refused an offer of a lesser role. Hart deserves better than Portsmouth.
