Regular readers will know I think Manchester City should have rid themselves of Carlos Tevez during the summer and Mario Balotelli, too, for that matter — no matter how well he played at Blackburn.
To me, Munich merely emphasised how much trouble as well as undoubted skill is in the Argentine’s baggage. What matters now is that, however the club works this mess out, Mancini has to receive total backing and nothing less.
City are at a key junction football-wise, close to making themselves regularly successful at the highest level even if qualifying from their Champions League group looks highly problematical. A wrong turn now could render the £500 million already invested worthless and certainly severely damage their credibility.
Perhaps the key, and something the owners must pay heed to, is that the supporters have unquestionably turned on Tevez and rightly so. Not all footballers are spoilt brats but too many of them are. It’s time it was pointed out to them. However they do it, show him the door.
