David Healy: Crisis at Liverpool could get worse

Liverpool fans must be wondering exactly what has happened to their team this season.

After all, they pushed Manchester United all the way in the title race last time.

I know they have had their problems since August but I didn’t for one second think they would lose the FA Cup third round replay to Reading on Wednesday night.

The defeat to Reading, which incidentally was completely deserved, was the last thing Rafael Benitez needed.

He was under enough pressure before. Now it’s even more intense.

It’s not looking good for Rafa. An even bigger worry for Liverpool fans is that they face the prospect of losing their two best players, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, if they don’t make the Champions League next season.

And with the news yesterday that Torres is out for six weeks and Gerrard a fortnight, the chances of that are slim.

Every big club in the world would take the pair of them in the morning. The vultures are circling. Much as they love the club, unless things improve, they may find a move hard to resist.
