David Healy: My performance during this qualifying campaign
Friday, 11 September 2009
The last qualifying campaign was amazing for me, scoring 13 goals.
I knew that this one was never going to be the same, and looking back now with one game to go it has been very disappointing.
I’m my own biggest critic and analyse each game that I play in.
Just about everyone else has given their assessment on my performances in the World Cup qualifiers.
Here’s my own honest opinion.
Slovakia (away): This was a tough game for us to open up with and obviously there was a lot of expectation on me after the Euro campaign. I missed a few half chances which annoyed me, but I worked hard for the team, as I always try to do.
Czech Republic (home): had a decent game. Played up front with Warren Feeney and we worked well together.
Slovenia (away): Put in lots of effort but no chances came my way. A frustrating night.
San Marino (home): I scored, which was pleasing, but I had a poor game.
San Marino (away): Poor again.
Poland (home): Worked really hard, running down the channels a lot. Had no chances but delighted we won.
Slovenia (home): Same as above.
Poland (away): Thought I had a really good first half linking well with Kyle Lafferty. In the second half I tired, but fancied myself to score. Sadly the chances didn’t come my way.
Slovakia (home): Did okay in the first half. Had a poor second half. Like all the boys tried all I could, but it just didn’t happen.

David has surpassed most or the "GREAT" goal scorers in British football so he has nothing to apologise for.

Aaron, clearly David is your hero and I am pleased you have someone like him to look up to.
If you read what I wrote you will realise that I did not say David was sad. I said it was sad that he has to justify himself by writing what in some matches sounds like excuses, in some matches sounds like an apology and overall sounds like someone who is feeling very insecure.
I hope he gets some confidence back, as I am sure if you ask the great goalscorers in history, they will agree that insecure people do not usually make great goalscorers.

I love Healy's honesty here. You are the sad one Richard, not David. He's an iconic figure who I'm sure will score many more goals for Northern Ireland.

It is sad that Healy feels the need "justify" himself like this.
It is even more sad that the BT print this.
