David Healy: No doubt about it, Mourinho really is the Special One

I must admit that I was surprised when Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Inter Milan.

There is no doubt, though, that the Italians deserved to go through.

If you think back to last season Chelsea almost knocked out a brilliant Barcelona side, so Inter Milan’s victory was a terrific achievement.

It was Jose Mourinho (pictured) who masterminded it of course.

He really deserves that ‘Special One’ title that he gave himself when he took over at Stamford Bridge in 2004.

Not only is he tactically aware — he got everything right on Tuesday in Inter Milan’s 1-0 win — but he is also box office in terms of his press conferences and post-match interviews.

You want to hear what he has to say. When he is on TV, you tend to hang on his every word. Love him or hate him, it’s impossible to ignore Jose.

Italian football is nowhere near as strong as it once was, but with Mourinho’s knowledge and tactical expertise, he pulled off one of the great triumphs in European football in recent times.

I can’t tell you how impressive it is to beat the current Chelsea team home and away.

As for Chelsea, I know their owner Roman Abramovich is desperate to win the Champions League but going out might be a blessing in disguise for their Premier League chances.

Even if they win the title though, I suspect Abramovich will make some major changes in the summer in a bid to make his European Cup dream come true.
